A Day at the Hotel Del Coronado

The Hotel Del Coronado

San Diego is known for endless sunny days, beautiful beaches, and it’s choice of fine hotels. One in particular, is the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island. I have yet to stayed at this timeless beauty, but I find joy in taking day trips to wondering around the lush landscaping and the golden beachscape.

The Hotel Del Coronado first opened its doors in 1888 and throughout the halls you will recognize a lot of familiar faces such as Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chapman, President Nixon, and a continued number of presidents, royalty, and celebrities, whom have all visited and stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado. For those of you who love Marilyn Monroe movies like myself, ‘Some Like It Hot’ was filmed at the hotel, featuring the endless charm and beauty of this magnificent place.

As you wondering around the grounds you will notice a line cabanas all along the boardwalk, a large swimming pool, and the iconic Beach Village, which is comprised of 78 cottages and villas that lie directly in front of the Hotel Del.

The Lobby of the Hotel Del Coronado

Just beyond the entrance is the enchanting lobby which leads you to the check-in and reservations counter. The wood finishing, the crystal chandelier and the floral touches contribute to the eclectic feel of the hotel. Can we agree that this is the most intricate elevator you have ever seen? It’s amazing! Better yet, the lobby is the entrance to shops and boutiques with their own unique styles and selections.

Shopping at the Hotel Del Coronado

Est. 1888

The boutique Est. 1888 deserves to have its own spotlight. The jewelry pieces above are handcrafted, displaying original buttons and jewels from the 1800’s. With each purchase, you are given a card which describes the origin of the button and the contact information to the maker who provides you with even further, personal information about the piece.

When it comes to jewelry, I appreciate pieces that are timeless and possess meaning. These statement pieces are breathtaking and the perfect pair for any and all of my vintage fashionistas!

Spreckels Sweets & Treats speaks for your inner sweet tooth! With fresh made fudge, decadent chocolates and candies, this place is sugar heaven! As it was quite warm the day I visited, I had to pass up the chocolates but I left with one of these. I don’t drink soda often, but when I do, I love the ones made with real cane sugar as the taste is so much better!

As you can probably tell, there is a lot to do at the Hotel Del Coronado. To add even more, I’ve decided to give you a further look into the activities at The Del.
